West Hartford is rich in history and new beginnings. You will discover wonderful shops and sites in every corner of town.
On our eastern border you'll find the world-renown Elizabeth Park rose gardens in full bloom in June and thousands of tulips and daffodils in March and April. In the northwest corner, get back to nature by hiking the trails at the MDC reservoirs or visiting the demonstration farm at Westmoor Park.
Bishops Corner, in the northern part of town at the intersection of North Main Street and Albany Avenue, is both a neighborhood and regional destination featuring a variety of businesses and restaurants and health care facilities on all four corners. (Exit 41 off I-84. Head north on South Main Street for about 3 miles.)
West Hartford Center has been the community's hub since the late 1600's. The unhurried atmosphere encourages you to park and walk along the tree-lined, brick sidewalks and stop by the fine specialty shops, restaurants, coffee shops and one-of-a-kind boutiques. Our newest retail district, Blue Back Square, is the Center's contemporary counterpart and is connected via South Main Street. Blue Back Square features seasonal outdoor concerts at Webster Walk, and several national establishments including Crate and Barrel, Barnes & Noble, Cinepolis Cinemas, Cheesecake Factory and many boutique shops as well. The new Delamar West Hartford boutique hotel sits at the corner of Memorial Road and Raymond Road, steps away for all the activity.
Take a self-guided walking tour of West Hartford's public art or the visit our historic sites in town. A large 4-foot sign on the Goodman Green (at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and South Main Street) in West Hartford Center lists all 39 historic sites and identifies their numbered locations on a town map. The signs at each site have a message about the background and historical significance of each site.
Park Road is a diverse shopping area with ethnic markets, restaurants, hair salons, clothing and tailoring, paint stores, garden centers, jewelry stores and much more. This business district, with brick sidewalks and turn-of-the-century street lamps, runs from Trout Brook Drive east to Prospect Avenue (Exit 43 off I-84. Travel east on Park Road for 1 mile). Two establishments of note are situated side-by-side: the Playhouse on Park, a 163 seat theatre offering year-round performances for all ages and interests, and A.C. Petersen Farms, a family restaurant known for its ice cream. On the first Saturday of October, a wonderful community parade is held.
Corbin's Corner, located across from Westfarms Mall on New Britain Avenue, has over 20 stores, including Sears, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Pier 1 Imports, Eastern Mountain Sports, Old Navy, the Olive Garden restaurant and Trader Joe's. Also in the southern section of town is Elmwood Center, a neighborhood shopping area which runs along New Britain Avenue (Exit 41 off I-84. Follow South Main Street to New Britain Avenue, turn left.) A variety of businesses and specialty shops are interspersed throughout the area including restaurants, florists, cleaners, pharmacies and a health club.
New Park Avenue has been transformed over the past ten years with new specialty businesses arriving to complement national stores such as the Home Depot, BJ's Wholesale Club, and Raymour & Flanigan. The Home Design District has over 20 independent member businesses located in one square mile on New Park Avenue who are dedicated to helping you connect all the pieces of your project.
